Turner from the Tate: The Sublime in Dialogue with Contemporary Art
This major retrospective features over 80 works by J.M.W. Turner, one of Britain’s most celebrated painters, on loan from the Tate. The exhibition reorganizes his oil paintings and watercolors by theme, allowing visitors to experience the grandeur of nature—its shifting light, atmosphere, tempestuous seas, and skies—through Turner’s mastery of the sublime. The show also places Turner’s works alongside postwar and contemporary art, highlighting themes still relevant today. Installations include Olafur Eliasson’s pieces addressing climate change and the Otolith Group's video works on colonialism, revealing the resonance between Turner’s concerns and those of contemporary artists.
