Torikoe Shrine New Year's Bonfire Festival
Friday, January 8, 2027
From January 5th to 8th in the morning, talismans, sacred straw ropes, and New Year's decorations that have been returned are stacked high and burned in a ceremonial fire. Children circle the fire singing traditional songs and striking the ground with green bamboo. Afterwards, they roast rice cakes hung on bamboo poles over the fire, which are believed to bring good health for the year when eaten. Sweets are distributed to participating children.
