This exhibition features the ukiyo-e collection of the Machida City Museum of Graphic Arts, with a focus on comedic prints from the late Edo to Meiji periods. Highlights include Hiroshige Utagawa's 'The Fifty-three Stations of the Tokaido' (Hoeido Edition), the caricature 'At First Glance, He Looks Like a Nice Man' by Kuniyoshi Utagawa (where multiple figures form a man’s profile), humorous catfish and measles prints, satirical art from the end of the Edo period, Enlightenment-themed works by Shosai Ikkei, and social satire cartoons by Kiyochika Kobayashi. In total, around 250 works will be displayed in rotation during the exhibition.
