Autumn Leaves at Nakatsukyo Gorge
October 21 – November 20, 2026
Free entry
Due to a landslide near the Osube bus stop, Seibu Kanko buses between Kawamata and Nakatsugawa are currently suspended. Located in Chichibu, Saitama Prefecture, Nakatsukyo Gorge was formed by the Nakatsugawa River, which originates at Jumonji Pass on the Musashi-Shinano border and carves its way between Mount Nantenzan and Mount Hakutaizan, creating steep cliffs and a deep valley. The approximately 10-kilometer stretch from Osube to the Nakatsugawa area is designated as a scenic spot by the prefecture. With sheer cliffs up to 100 meters high, the gorge is renowned for its natural beauty, especially in spring and autumn when the fresh greenery or vibrant autumn foliage of the primeval forest make it one of the most beautiful spots in the Okuchichibu region.
