Mitake Gorge, located just a short walk from Mitake Station on the JR Ome Line, is a scenic area along the upper Tama River. In autumn, the maple and ginkgo trees along both riverbanks create a picturesque setting perfect for casual autumn leaf viewing. Typically, the foliage begins changing colors from early November, featuring maples, ginkgo, zelkova, wild cherry, and oak trees, reaching peak colors by late November. Visitors can enjoy views of the clear river waters rushing around towering rocks, a site selected as one of Japan's 100 Best Waters. From October 24 to November 23, 2026, the Mitake Gorge Autumn Colors Festival will be held, with a food stall village opening on October 24.
