Autumn Foliage at Lake Ashi in Hakone
The autumn colors in Hakone begin at Lake Ashi and gradually move to Sengokuhara, Gora, and Kowakudani. Because of its higher elevation, Lake Ashi is the first area in Hakone where the leaves start to change, usually from late October to early November. Visitors can enjoy the vibrant maple and enkianthus foliage from sightseeing boats or hiking trails. The lakeside Hakone Detached Palace Garden offers sweeping views of the surrounding mountains’ fall colors, Lake Ashi, and, on clear days, even Mount Fuji.
