Designated as a Special Place of Scenic Beauty and a Special Historic Site by the Japanese government, Hamarikyu Gardens is a traditional strolling garden dating back to the Edo period, featuring tidal ponds and two duck hunting sites. From mid-November to early December, about 260 trees—including Chinese sweetgum, wax trees, cherry, and Japanese maple—turn shades of yellow and red around the ponds and tea houses. The picturesque tea houses, carefully reconstructed based on historical records, blend beautifully with the autumn scenery. At the restored Nakajima Teahouse, guests can enjoy matcha tea and traditional Japanese sweets (for a fee).
