Illumination of the Thousand-Trunk Ginkgo, a National Natural Monument, at Katsushika Hachiman Shrine
November 28–29, 2026
The famous Thousand-Trunk Ginkgo tree, designated as a National Natural Monument, will be illuminated for two evenings: November 28 (Saturday) and 29 (Sunday). Estimated to be over 1,200 years old, this massive ginkgo tree is known for the many branches that sprouted around its trunk after it was struck by lightning, giving it a distinctive appearance. During the nighttime illumination, the golden leaves glow brightly, creating a magical scene against the night sky.
