Autumn Foliage at Mount Hodosan
Mount Hodosan in Nagatoro, Saitama Prefecture, stands 497 meters high and is a popular spot to enjoy autumn leaves. The trees start turning red and yellow in late October, with the best viewing period typically from mid to late November. The Hodosan Ropeway connects the base and summit stations in about five minutes, providing sweeping aerial views of Nagatoro and the colorful mountainsides. At the summit, you'll find the Okumiya Shrine of Hodosan Shrine, as well as the Hodosan Small Animal Park where visitors can see Japanese monkeys and deer, making it possible to spend a full day enjoying the autumn scenery. Every November, the Nagatoro Autumn Leaves Festival is held throughout the area, drawing crowds who also visit famous local attractions like the Rock Formations and Tsuki-no-Ishi Maple Park.
