Autumn Leaves at Kitanomaru Park
Located in Chiyoda, Tokyo, Kitanomaru Park is part of the outer gardens of the Imperial Palace, created on the site of the former northern fort of Edo Castle. Despite being in the city center, visitors can experience vibrant autumn foliage reminiscent of a rural landscape. Opened in 1969 to commemorate Emperor Showa's sixtieth birthday, the park features a wide variety of deciduous trees such as Japanese maple, zelkova, konara oak, and sawtooth oak. Leaves begin to change color in mid-November, with the best viewing from late November to early December. The western area, known as Maple Hill, is covered in brilliant red leaves with a small waterfall nearby. Trees surround the pond in the lawn area, reflecting their autumn colors onto the water. There are also many fruiting trees that attract wild birds.
