Autumn Leaves at Awamata Falls
November 20 – December 10, 2026
Located upstream in the Yoro Valley, Awamata Falls is celebrated as the valley's most scenic spot. Surrounded by native maples, lacquer trees, sawtooths, and oaks, the area is renowned throughout the prefecture as a premier autumn foliage destination. During the season, the vibrant mix of red, yellow, brown, and green leaves creates a uniquely beautiful autumn landscape. The combination of colorful leaves and the waterfall offers a truly refreshing experience. Well-maintained walking paths lead to the falls, allowing visitors to fully enjoy the atmosphere. From late November to early December, the 'Yoro Valley Autumn Leaves Light-up' event is held, illuminating various locations throughout the valley. The sight of the waterfall glowing in the dark is especially magical. Please note that due to typhoon damage in 2023 and 2026, only the area immediately around the falls is accessible for walks, while the 'Waterfall Viewing Trail' remains closed. Before visiting, check the latest updates on local government and tourism websites as well as the websites of the Kominato and Isumi Railways.
