Autumn Foliage at Sakura Castle Park
November 14 – December 19, 2026
Sakura Castle Park, recognized as one of Japan's Top 100 Castles, is a beloved historical park where visitors can enjoy seasonal natural beauty. In late autumn, the park is adorned with vibrant autumn leaves, creating a unique atmosphere that complements the castle ruins. Remnants of the former Sakura Castle, such as the stone walls, earthworks, and the former keep site, are scattered throughout the park, their historical presence enhanced by the surrounding colorful foliage. Notably, the nearly 400-year-old 'Married Mokko Trees' next to the keep site are especially striking, with their evergreen leaves contrasting beautifully with the autumn colors. The park’s eastern management center displays models, old photographs, and excavated artifacts related to Sakura Castle, allowing visitors to combine autumn leaf viewing with a historical stroll. At the National Museum of Japanese History, located on the former Ninomaru site, visitors can also learn about Japan’s archaeology, history, and folklore. Enjoy a delightful autumn day where history and natural beauty intertwine at Sakura Castle Park.
