Autumn Foliage at Mount Haruna and Lake Haruna
October 21 – November 10, 2026
Free entry
Mount Haruna is one of the three famous mountains of Gunma Prefecture, alongside Mount Akagi and Mount Myogi. At the summit, you’ll find the caldera lake, Lake Haruna, and Haruna-Fuji, a volcanic cone within the caldera. In autumn, the entire mountain is adorned with vibrant foliage, including maples, Japanese sumac, larches, and cherry trees. The view from the top of Haruna-Fuji is especially spectacular and can be reached via hiking trails or by ropeway. From this vantage point, visitors can enjoy panoramic sights of the autumn colors reflected in Lake Haruna to the west, and distant views of the Tanigawa mountain range, Mount Asama, and the Kanto Plain—and on clear days, even Mount Fuji.
