53rd Noh and Kyogen Appreciation Performance: Yoshitsune's Dreamscape
October 18, 2026
A performance presented by Masao Society, the supporters' association for Shintaro Saka, a Kanze school Noh actor. This event features works inspired by the legendary samurai Minamoto no Yoshitsune. The highlight is the Noh play 'Yashima,' performed with the 'Yumi-nagashi' (Flowing Arrow) and 'Nasu no Yoichi' interpretations, depicting the restless spirit of Yoshitsune as he relives the sufferings of the warrior's path and the battles of Ichinotani and Yashima before releasing his earthly attachments. There will also be a talk by Nozomi Hayashi titled 'How Noh Portrayed Yoshitsune.' The Kyogen play 'The Tangerine' will be performed by Mansaku Nomura and Mansai Nomura. Shintaro Saka will lead the Noh play 'Yashima.' Additionally, there will be three short Noh dances. Children not yet in elementary school are not admitted. The program lasts approximately 3 hours.
