Timber Riding at Kiba (Koto City Folk Performance Festival)
Kiba Timber Riding is a traditional performing art that developed among lumber workers along the waterways in the Edo period. Performers balance barefoot atop floating square timber, using long bamboo poles with hooks, and demonstrate a range of acrobatic skills, with the basic routine being called 'ground riding.' The acts are accompanied by lively Kasai festival music and include routines such as duet riding, riding with umbrellas or fans, hands-free balancing, riding on wooden clogs, and other challenging feats.
