Yumeji’s Japan: An Imagined Utopia
This exhibition focuses on the vision of 'Japan' as imagined by Takehisa Yumeji, a poet and painter known as an icon of Taisho Romanticism. Yumeji dedicated his art to capturing the traditional beauty and emotion of Japan that he felt was disappearing with changing times. The exhibition features works that evoke the nostalgia and memories of his boyhood, as well as pieces inspired by ukiyo-e, theater, and classical literature, offering a glimpse into Yumeji’s personal utopia. Many original hand-painted works are on display, allowing visitors to experience the unique aesthetic and personal reflections behind his portrayal of Japanese beauty.
