Timotej Janko "Suppose We Counted Every Edge of the Grid"

Through analogue image-making and spoken word, the project explores how perception gradually becomes memory, and how memory remains unstable, continuously reshapes itself over time. The title proposes an impossible gesture. It imagines a moment of resisting the constant impulse to search for something new, asking instead what might happen if we gave sustained attention to what already surrounds us. The grid becomes a metaphor for the invisible structures that organize contemporary life. Timotej Janko is a Slovak artist currently based in Tokyo. He approaches movement not as a subject but as a method of making. This body of work developed across multiple countries and culminated during an artist residency at Arts Itoya and a public darkroom workshop at Studio Kura in Kyushu, Japan. The exhibition brings together silver gelatin prints and 8mm film shot in Tokyo, accompanied by a live soundtrack composed from intimate monologues recorded during Timotej’s travels with people from various cultural backgrounds, transformed into a sound composition in collaboration with Bangkok-based artist Wasawat Somno, who will perform the work live at the exhibition opening.
