The Spirituality of Shinto: Tradition and Heritage

Takumi Nakazato, who spent over a decade compiling and publishing the Encyclopedia of Bioethics, explores the history and evolution of Japanese Shinto. The talk covers topics from prehistoric animism and shamanism to modern-day Shinto, examining the formation of State Shinto in the late Edo period, religious repression during wartime, and the secularization and rise of spirituality after the war. The event also discusses potential ways for Japanese society to overcome its current challenges. Registration and payment are accepted from September 1 (Tuesday) to October 14 (Wednesday).
