A symposium held to commemorate the upcoming special exhibition at the Keio University Historical Exhibition Hall in autumn 2026. The event examines the overlapping circles between Yukichi Fukuzawa, known for his ties to the Kishu region, and Kumagusu Minakata, recognized for his connections in London. Though the two shared similarities in their approach to scholarship, worldview, and their relationships with authority, they also differed greatly in other respects. Both led extensive, lifelong pursuits and left many endeavors unfinished. This symposium explores what insights can be gained from comparing their lives and works, inviting diverse perspectives. Admission is limited to the first 500 attendees on the day.
