Sugawara Shrine, also known as the Fertility Shrine, is famous for about 90 sacred stones believed to bring fertility to those who hold them. Visitors are allowed to hold these stones only twice a year during the spring and autumn festivals, held annually on February 25 and November 25. Many people visit the shrine on these special days to pray for children.
