Shintaro Suzuki "Colorful Palette"

Born in Hachioji in 1895, Shintaro Suzuki was one of the leading figures of modern Japanese Western-style painting. Working across the Meiji, Taisho and Showa periods, Suzuki continued painting until the age of 93. The artist's cheerful, free-flowing style, familiar even from confectionery packaging, has remained beloved for generations. Filled with warmth, joy and optimism, the paintings continue to delight viewers today. Celebrated for luminous, expressive color and often described as a master colorist, Suzuki created a vivid pictorial world unlike any other. Drawing primarily from the Sogo Museum of Art collection, this exhibition explores the central role of color in the artist's work and celebrates the radiant palette that defined a remarkable career.
