Enjoy the traditional culture of moon viewing, passed down since the Edo period, along with the deepening autumn atmosphere at this annual event in Mukojima Hyakkaen Garden. The garden stays open until 9 PM and is transformed with lanterns decorated with haiku and paintings inspired by Katsushika Hokusai, the garden itself, and the Sumida River. Visitors can stroll through the enchanting, moonlit gardens. Special events include a tea ceremony hosted by the Mukojima Hyakkaen Tea Association, performances by local koto musicians, and a moving rendition of the Edo-era narrative shamisen music known as 'Shinnai-nagashi,' performed by pairs of singers and shamisen players as they walk through the garden, providing an atmospheric experience of Edo-era charm.
