MoON MONTH – Awaiting the Moon
September 7 – October 4, 2026
A limited-time event celebrating the moon, where you can experience the history and culture of Takanawa in a modern way. In the Edo period, Takanawa was renowned for moon viewing, and the custom of 'waiting for the twenty-sixth night' was popular. This event brings that tradition to life with art, gourmet food, music, and interactive exhibits. Highlights include an immersive planetarium show recreating the starry sky of the Edo period, produced by planetarium creator Takayuki Ohira with narration by actor and voice artist Kenjiro Tsuda. Other attractions feature an immersive exhibit of Utamaro Kitagawa’s masterpiece 'Moon over Shinagawa,' displayed at life-size scale on tatami mats, actors in period costumes parading through the venue, hands-on rice cake making, and a program for observing the moon through telescopes.
