⌖ Open in Maps ↗From June to September 2026, Sprout Curation will host Aftermath of Light, a continuous series of group exhibitions taking place across three venues with a rotating lineup of participating artists. This exhibition, Aftermath of Light <ep.3>, is part of the "CADAN BUTAIURA" project, presented as a duo exhibition featuring Juri Akiyama and Noriaki Hattori at Gallery Butaiura in Azabudai Hills.
In painting, if color is a dance of reflected light of varying frequencies, and the work is the emergence of an image resulting from complex interactions with the support medium and tools, then the artist who handles light might be a choreographer. Or perhaps, in the sense of entrusting themselves to the unpredictable behavior of light, they are closer to a shaman.
By titling this exhibition Aftermath of Light—rather than Remnants of Light or Deeds of Light—the agent performing the act of "dealing with the aftermath" becomes deliberately ambiguous. Is it the light, the artist, or the viewer? It is none of them, yet simultaneously all of them. By allowing the subject and object to organically merge, I want to emphasize the nuance that this exhibition is a phenomenon woven together by a network of relationships encompassing the light, the artist, the work, and the viewer.
