This special exhibition at the National Museum of Nature and Science commemorates the 150th anniversary of Hideyo Noguchi's birth. It reflects on Noguchi's life and achievements while tracing the history and future of infectious disease research, a challenge humanity has faced for generations. Highlights include displays on the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic in 2020–2021, materials related to the discovery of microbes and the identification of infectious disease causes, a replica of a message of resolve Noguchi carved into a pillar of his childhood home, medical instruments he took to Africa, and pathology specimens used in his research. There is also a hands-on corner where visitors can observe pathogens through a microscope. The exhibition offers a chance to explore the fight against infectious diseases from past to present and consider the ongoing role of scientific research.
