Futarasan Shrine Winter Festival

Held twice a year at Futarasan Shrine, the Winter Festival takes place on December 15 and the Spring Festival on January 15, both known locally as 'Otariya.' These nighttime festivals mark the end of the year and the close of the New Year period for the people of Utsunomiya. On 'Otariya' days, the event features a nighttime procession of sacred portable shrines and a performance of the Dengaku dance, a cultural property designated by the city of Utsunomiya.
