Special Exhibition: Buddhist Statues of Southern Musashi during the Heian Period
October 31 – December 13, 2026
In the area south of the Tama River, corresponding to present-day Yokohama and Kawasaki, the historic districts of Tsuzuki, Kuraki, and Tachibana were once established. This region, known as southern Musashi, has preserved Buddhist statues from the late Heian period of the 11th and 12th centuries. This exhibition explores the characteristics and historical context of these statues, shedding light on the Buddhist culture of the Heian era in southern Musashi.
