Best Time to See Autumn Leaves: The Great Ginkgo Tree of Kuromata
November 21 – December 10, 2026
Located in the Sakano settlement, along the valley of the Kuromata River towards Seisasa Pass, the Great Ginkgo Tree of Kuromata stands out with its broad, low trunk. The tree is 20 meters tall, has a trunk circumference of 8.7 meters, and is believed to be around 500 years old. Designated as a Natural Monument of Shizuoka Prefecture, it creates a stunning contrast with the two red shrine gates standing in front of it. There's also an observation deck behind the tree, offering sweeping views of the surrounding mountain village. Enjoy a hike in the fresh air and take in the beautiful scenery. Note: As the tree is deep in the mountains, make sure you prepare properly, bringing a map and suitable gear.
