New Year's Visit at Torigoe Shrine
Friday, January 1, 2027
This historic shrine in Taito celebrates its 1,376th anniversary. The main deity enshrined is Yamato Takeru, accompanied by Ame-no-Koyane and the spirit of Tokugawa Ieyasu. Visitors pray to be guided toward a fortunate year, inspired by the white swan associated with the shrine’s legend. Starting at midnight on January 1, complimentary sacred sake, longevity ginkgo nuts, sweet rice wine, and lucky coins will be given to early visitors. During the first three days of the year, the grand mikoshi (portable shrine) will be displayed. The office will also begin offering special zodiac charms and new year’s limited edition shrine stamps.
