Special Exhibition: Artist Toru Kawano’s Landscapes
Saturday, January 30, 2027
This exhibition explores the work of Toru Kawano, an artist active from the Meiji through Showa periods, with a focus on his landscape paintings. Part three of the series, it features early charcoal and ink sketches of Nagano landscapes that showcase his remarkable technique. The show also includes etchings Kawano created after sketching scenes around Tokyo and its suburbs following the Great Kanto Earthquake of 1923, capturing the devastation, chaos, and moments of mutual aid. Visitors can view a comprehensive selection spanning his early youth to his later years in Koganei, Tokyo.
