Autumn Foliage at Lake Chuzenji, Nikko
Lake Chuzenji, situated at the entrance to Oku-Nikko at an elevation of 1,269 meters, is one of the highlights of Nikko National Park. Formed about 20,000 years ago when lava from the eruption of Mount Nantai dammed a valley, this beautiful lake is surrounded by maple, lacquer, beech, oak, and katsura trees. Their red and yellow leaves are reflected in the water, creating stunning autumn views. Taking a leisurely walk along the lake shore is recommended, but enjoying the fall colors from a sightseeing boat on the lake is especially memorable.
