Designated Cultural Property of Chiba Prefecture: Special Exhibition of Ōmon Stone Lithograph Icons at the Former Tega Church
December 15–25, 2026
The Former Tega Church was originally a thatched-roof private home converted into a church in 1881 and is the only surviving example of a reused church building in Japan. It is also the oldest existing church building in the Tokyo metropolitan area. In 2012, it was designated as a tangible cultural property by Chiba Prefecture. While replicas are usually exhibited, this special exhibition will feature the actual Ōmon stone lithograph icons. (Photo shows the exterior of the Former Tega Church)
