October 11 – November 30, 2026
Free entry
Shosen Gorge, recognized as a Japan Heritage site in 2020, is located in Kofu City, Yamanashi Prefecture and is known for boasting some of the most beautiful gorge scenery in Japan. Visitors can admire dramatic granite cliffs, unusual rock formations, and clear, abundant streams shaped over centuries. The walking path from Tenjinmori to Sengataki Waterfall offers breathtaking views of the colorful autumn leaves, passing through famous spots such as Kakuen Peak, Sengataki Waterfall, and Stone Gate. Due to elevation differences, the foliage season is prolonged, allowing visitors to enjoy autumn colors for over a month, typically from mid-October to late November. The autumn leaves along the Wild Monkey Valley Forest Road upstream of Arakawa Dam and in Itashiki Gorge are also stunning.
