54th Akishima Citizens Whale Festival
Saturday, August 29, 2026
The Akishima Citizens Whale Festival, with over 50 years of history, is named after the discovery of a fossil of a new whale species in August 1961 on the Tama River riverside in the city. It has become a summer tradition in Akishima. The event features stalls from local shops, a parade with a whale-shaped float participated by various local groups, and a spectacular fireworks display that lights up the night sky on the first night of the festival.
