The 119th Nitten Art Exhibition
Celebrating its 119th year in 2026, Nitten is Japan’s largest open-submission art exhibition, first held in 1907. Each October, works are submitted nationwide, and those selected by a rigorous jury—along with pieces by Nitten members—are showcased at the National Art Center, Tokyo. Around 3,000 new works, including Japanese painting, Western painting, sculpture, crafts, and calligraphy, are on display from both award winners and members. Additionally, on November 1, 8, and 15 (Sundays), workshops led by Nitten artists will be held for elementary and middle school students and their guardians.
