Traveling Vitamin Concert: Rare Traditional Chinese Instrument, the Yangqin
November 21, 2026
The yangqin is a traditional Chinese instrument with 150 strings stretched across a wooden box, played by striking the strings with bamboo mallets. This special concert offers a rare chance to experience the sound of the yangqin, which is now seldom heard even in China, let alone in Japan. Performer Ms. Aono majored in Chinese literature at Waseda University, discovered the yangqin while studying abroad in China, and later studied its techniques under Chinese musicians. Program includes: 'Suzhou Nocturne,' 'Amazing Grace,' 'My Grandfather’s Clock,' 'Moon River,' and more.
