Tatsuya Shimada "Analog Holography"

Working as a stylist and artist, Tatsuya Shimada has provided styling for magazines, advertisements, and musicians, while expanding his perspective on fashion and culture through his independent magazine, CONTACT HIGH ZINE. His creative focus extends far beyond fashion, deeply rooted in musical and cultural influences such as punk and rave culture. Around 2008, he began producing music using synthesizers like the TB-303. This accumulation of interests and artistic practice has since evolved into performing arts grounded in the musical equipment he uses daily. In March 2025, Shimada held a duo exhibition titled "SPIRITUAL MACHINES" with artist Wataru Komachi. Set against an era of rapidly advancing AI and machine technology, the exhibition visualized through installation the almost faith-like expectations and devotion humans direct toward technology. In this exhibition, he presents a new experimental installation, "ANALOG HOLOGRAPHY." Focusing on how humans and machines, sounds, signals, and matter interfere with one another to bring forth new structures and existences, Shimada examines the relationship between humanity and the evolution of machines that continuously replicate and mutate, using the acid house culture centered on the TB-303 as a key reference. Additionally, "CLONE BIBLE," first unveiled in "SPIRITUAL MACHINES," will also be featured. Functioning as both an artwork and usable musical equipment, this piece will be available for purchase for the first time. This exhibition offers a valuable opportunity to engage with the current state of Shimada's ever-evolving expression.
