Sugarhill × Takehiko Nakafuji: Mirrorball Publication Exhibition

This exhibition marks the release of Mirrorball, a photo book created through the collaboration between photographer Takehiko Nakafuji and fashion brand Sugarhill. From 2022 to 2026, Nakafuji followed Sugarhill’s creative journey, documenting seven seasons of runway shows, lookbook shoots and brand campaigns. Over four years, one photographer closely observed the evolution of a single brand, capturing not only the finished collections but also the moments surrounding them. The photographs reveal scenes rarely seen in official fashion imagery: the anticipation before a show begins, the quiet moments after it ends, fleeting expressions from models, the textures of reflective materials and the energy filling each space. Rather than simply documenting fashion, Nakafuji captures the atmosphere, relationships and passing moments that shape the identity of Sugarhill. With a background in street photography, Nakafuji has long focused on unexpected encounters and the beauty of unplanned moments. That same perspective remains present backstage and behind the scenes, where the photographer observes rather than directs. Through four years of continuous observation, Mirrorball becomes more than a record of changing collections. It reveals the people, connections and accumulated time behind the brand—elements that cannot be fully expressed through words. To celebrate the publication, Komiyama Tokyo G presents a special exhibition featuring selected photographs from Mirrorball. The photo book will also be available for purchase during the exhibition, offering visitors an opportunity to experience the world of Sugarhill through Nakafuji’s lens.
