Special Exhibition: Masterpieces of Modern Woodblock Prints – Beauties, Actors, and Landscapes
October 28 – December 6, 2026
Modern woodblock prints, known as 'shin-hanga,' were created using the traditional ukiyo-e techniques of the Edo period, but produced from the Taisho to early Showa era. This exhibition brings together select highlights from the museum’s collection, featuring refined portraits of beauties by Shinsui Ito and Goyo Hashiguchi, depictions of actors by Kohka Yamamura and Shunsen Natori, and emotive landscapes by Hasui Kawase and Hiroshi Yoshida. Explore the unique appeal of shin-hanga, which reflects the modern spirit through rich variety, and experience the revival of woodblock printing traditions blended with contemporary sensibilities.
