Special Autumn Exhibition: From Ancient Orient to Iwami Ginzan – How Silver Shaped the World

Throughout history, gold and silver have symbolized wealth and power, while copper and iron supported civilizations through tools and weapons. Silver, in particular, evolved from a standard of value to the creation of coins, ultimately influencing the global economy during the Age of Exploration. This exhibition explores the relationship between humanity and metals, especially silver, by showcasing ornaments and silverware from the ancient Orient, a diverse range of coins, and artifacts related to the Iwami Ginzan Silver Mine. Marking the beginning of the 500th anniversary of the mine's discovery and the 20th anniversary of its World Heritage status in 2027, this special exhibition traces the history of silver and its global impact.
