This exhibition presents the work of four remarkable painters whose distinctive artistic visions reshaped Japanese painting from the late Muromachi to the Edo period. The title, Jakuson Hakudo, is a coined name created by combining one character from each artist's name: Ito Jakuchu, Sesson Shukei, Hakuin Ekaku and Uragami Gyokudo. Though each developed a highly individual style, together their works reveal the richness and diversity of Japanese painting across the centuries. The ceramics section explores the long history of Chinese ceramics, from Neolithic pottery to Han-dynasty green-glazed wares and the brilliantly decorated porcelains of Jingdezhen. The exhibition also features Asian sculpture and selected works by Mokichi Okada, offering a broader introduction to the artistic traditions of East Asia.
