Heisei and Reiwa Through Television and Commercials 2026

This exhibition explores the Heisei and Reiwa eras through television programs and commercials. Drawing on the Broadcasting Library's ongoing exhibition series examining different periods in Japanese broadcasting history, it revisits the shows, advertisements and media moments that defined everyday life over the past four decades. With the rapid rise of digital media, streaming platforms, smartphones and AI, the broadcasting landscape has undergone dramatic change in recent years. Looking back at television since the Heisei era while reflecting on developments after the COVID-19 pandemic, the exhibition also considers the future of broadcasting in an increasingly digital age. Presented alongside the exhibition, Heisei & Reiwa TV Collection features screenings of memorable dramas, variety shows, music programs, quiz shows and other broadcasts from the Heisei and Reiwa eras, selected from the Broadcasting Library's collection.
