Genkotsudan, a long-running Tokyo theater troupe, stages its 35th anniversary production "Tengoku to Jigoku" (Heaven and Hell) at Shimokitazawa Shogekijo Rakuen in Setagaya, Tokyo, from November 11 to 15, 2026. Written and directed by Ichitoguchi Ura, the play is a period-flavored "news spectacle" drama set in present-day Chuo City, Tokyo, in which a sun god suddenly appears and a reporter from an old Hatchobori newspaper investigates, staged with 19th-century theatrical music. All seating is unreserved (free seating), with preschool children not admitted.
