Starlit Storytelling: The Discovery of Pluto
Sunday, August 23, 2026
This event features traditional Japanese storytelling (kodan) by professional performer Seinosuke Tanonaka, recounting the true story of Clyde Tombaugh—a young, self-taught astronomer in the United States. Through dedicated observation and photographic comparison, Tombaugh discovered the then-unknown planet Pluto in 1930. The event is open to all (children not yet in school must be accompanied by a guardian). Capacity is 170 people, with 2 wheelchair spaces; floor seating is not available. Registration is required: advance registration for 100 participants opens July 5, with 70 additional spots available on the day of the event.
