The Miyanaga Takehiko Memorial Art Museum will host a special exhibition, 'Takehiko Miyanaga – Elegance, Spirit, Breath,' starting Saturday, June 13. Exhibition Highlights: The notion of 'elegance' is inseparable from Takehiko Miyanaga (1919–1987)—reflected in his art, his sophisticated demeanor, and his way of life. Focusing on three key concepts—elegance, spirit, and breath—the exhibition explores Miyanaga's sensitivity, passion, and creative process. In addition to pure painting, Miyanaga expressed himself through a broad range of styles, including commercial design. His universally appealing and distinct works remain captivating today. Having lived through the tumultuous Showa era, Miyanaga observed society sharply and established a unique artistic style through persistent challenge and exploration. The exhibition features about 70 works, including 16 oil paintings, 7 posters, 8 original illustrations for covers, 7 sketches or studies (some shown for the first time), and related items, such as Odakyu Railway materials and Pentel Crayon memorabilia. Guests can appreciate his process from sketches to finished pieces and sense the dedication in every brushstroke. By tracing Miyanaga’s artistic journey inspired by the concept of 'iki,' the exhibition aims to renew appreciation for his achievements and pass his legacy on to future generations. Exhibition Details: - Dates: June 13, 2026 (Sat) – December 6, 2026 (Sun) - Hours: 10:00–19:00 (last entry 18:30) - Closed Mondays (or next weekday if Monday falls on a national holiday) - Admission: 300 yen (discounted to 200 yen with same-day use of the adjacent Koubou-no-Satoyu public bath).
