This special exhibition focuses on the Western-style buildings that symbolized the Meiji era's enlightenment and modernization. Highlights include Tokyo's first Western-style building, the Tsukiji Hotel, and rare conceptual drawings like the End & Beckman's outline of the National Diet Building, as well as Kengo Kuma's facades of Tokyo Station. Over 200 items showcase the transformation of Japanese architecture, from Western-style carpentry to authentic Western architecture by foreign architects, the efforts of Japanese architects, and Western-style mansions built for the aristocracy. Through diverse materials and three-dimensional displays, visitors can explore the expanding architectural culture of the Meiji period.
