Rin Nakashima: 'Harmonize and Connect Through the Sound of the Koto'

This is not an ordinary koto class. While learning the basics such as playing techniques and how to read music, participants will experience tuning the instrument and, in turn, reflecting on their own sense of tune and balance. It's an opportunity to harmonize both sound and body, experiencing the unique Japanese approach of 'aligning' through music. The workshop explores the evolution of Japanese sound through listening, learning, playing, and feeling. Kotos and picks are available for loan, so beginners are welcome. This session’s theme is 'Hirajoshi: The Starting Point of Modern Koto Music.'
