Summer, 1975. In the Okazaki family home in Nakano, a father and his eldest daughter live quietly after losing the mother and youngest daughter in the Tokyo air raids. Beneath this peaceful routine lies a subtle disturbance caused by a mysterious letter that arrives every summer and the father's silent vigil over the mailbox. The tranquility is disrupted when the lively younger daughter's family arrives, and things become even more complicated as a mysterious parent and child and an eccentric woman visit on a rainy night. As even the grandchildren become involved, the family relationships—long considered unshakeable—begin to quietly unravel after thirty years.
