⌖ Open in Maps ↗LAG is pleased to present MORIBITO, a solo exhibition by Bhajju Shyam, one of the leading artists of Gond art in India, from August 22 to September 12, 2026. This exhibition celebrates the completion of MORIBITO, the first picture book and animated short film created through a collaboration between Bhajju Shyam and Japanese creators, and follows the MORIBITO commemorative exhibition held at JR Kyoto Isetan. MORIBITO is an autobiographical work told through Bhajju Shyam's own words and newly created original paintings. With a desire to preserve memories that are gradually fading from the world and pass them on to future generations, the book traces his life—from his childhood in a forest village, to his encounter with his mentor, his departure for the city, and the beginning of his journey as an artist. Rooted in the worldview and understanding of nature passed down through the Gond people, Bhajju Shyam has developed a distinctive artistic language shaped by his own experiences. As he writes in MORIBITO, "the memory of the Gond people is still connected to the lines I draw." His paintings embody stories handed down through generations and a deep sensitivity to the natural world. The exhibition features the original paintings created for MORIBITO, together with related publications. By viewing the original works alongside the book, visitors are invited to discover the stories embedded in each painting and the expansive world of memory that unfolds behind them.
