Machida Yakushiike Park Shikisai-no-Mori in Machida City, Tokyo, centers around a pond originally created for irrigation during the Edo period. Designated as a Tokyo Metropolitan Place of Scenic Beauty in 1998 and selected as one of Japan’s Top 100 Historical Parks in 2007, it is a celebrated local spot, especially famous for autumn foliage from mid to late November. Maples, ginkgo, and cherry trees around the pond and in the surrounding woodlands turn vibrant shades of red, yellow, and brown. The Taiko Bridge over the pond and a relocated Edo-period farmhouse within the park add to the historic atmosphere, offering picturesque views among colorful leaves. Nearby, the Notuda Yakushido Temple features a majestic ginkgo tree estimated to be over 500 years old, which can be admired across the pond.
